2017 Ford Transit

Wheelbases and Body Lengths

The Transit offers a variety of wheelbases and body lengths to fit your needs, whether you're carrying cargo or transporting people. The Transit Van comes in three sizes: a 130-inch wheelbase with 126-inch load floor, a 148-inch wheelbase with 143.7-inch load floor and a 148-inch wheelbase/extended body with 172.2-inch load floor.

The Transit Passenger Wagon offers a 130-inch wheelbase with standard 8-passenger seating or available 10-passenger aisle seating, a 148-inch wheelbase with standard 12- or available 15-passenger aisle seating and a 148-inch wheelbase/extended body with standard 15-passenger aisle seating and increased rear cargo space.

Three Roof Heights

Pick the amount of cargo space you need. The 130-inch wheelbase has a low roof height of 83 and a medium height of 100. Transit 148-inch wheelbase has a low roof height of 83, medium height of 100 and a high roof over 110. If you choose the 148-inch wheel/extended body model, your roof height will be 109.

Passenger Wagon Seating

The regular-wheelbase Transit with low or medium roof comes in a standard 8- or available 10-passenger model. The Transit Passenger Wagon long-wheelbase model, available in low, medium or high roof, provides standard 12- or available 15-passenger seating. And there's the long-wheelbase dual-rear-wheel 15-passenger wagon with extended body and high roof, which comes with the industry's first five-row side-curtain airbag* and provides best-in-class** 100.5 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the last row. Aisle seating is also standard on Transit 10-, 12- and 15-passenger wagons.

*Always wear safety belts and secure children in the rear seat.

**Class is Full-Size Vans based on Ford segmentation.

Towing Capability and Features

Transit has a maximum towing capability of 7,500 lbs. and offers available features to help make towing convenient.

The available trailer brake controller (TBC) works in conjunction with the anti-lock brakes and synchronizes the vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking.

And there's trailer sway control (TSC) technology included in the Trailer Wirings Provisions Package. Integrated with the standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control,TM TSC uses selective wheel braking and reduced engine power to help maintain trailer control, even when you're towing a very heavy load.*

*Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.

Three Powerful Engines

  • 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 - The standard 3.7L V6 delivers responsive performance with 275 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 - Displacing 3.5 liters, this EcoBoost®V6 generates 310 horsepower and has a best-in-class* V6/V8 maximum gas torque rating of 400 lb.-ft.
  • 3.2L I-5 Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel - The direct-injected 3.2L I-5 Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel is also available and delivers proven third-generation Ford diesel ruggedness and dependability.

*Class is Full-Size Vans based on Ford segmentation.

6-Speed Automatic Overdrive with SelectShift®

Every Transit engine gets a 6-speed SelectShift® transmission designed for low-end acceleration and high-end performance. And SelectShift® gives you two modes of operation to choose from: Progressive Range Select lets you toggle on the shift lever to reduce the range of available gears while in Drive. Or choose Full Manual function that lets you pull the shift lever into M for manual mode and use the same toggle switch to select the gear desired.

Cargo Door Configurations

Transit low-roof models come with passenger-side 60/40 hinged cargo doors or optional sliding doors, while the medium- and high-roof models have a standard passenger-side sliding cargo door. If your job calls for working from both sides, dual sliding side cargo doors are available on medium- and high-roof vans. The rear hinged 50/50 cargo doors swing open 180 degrees on the 130-inch wheelbase model and 237 degrees on the 148-inch wheelbase model.

Modern Interior

While the Transit exterior shows the energy-in-motion influence of the Ford kinetic design, the interior is equally dynamic with available heated seats and driver-focused attitude. The driver's seat is adjustable to several positions, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes to provide the most comfortable position for any driver. The modern, car-like instrument panel features ergonomic gauges and controls that are easy to read and reach. There's plenty of storage space as well for carrying a wide assortment of items.
